Weekly ongoing group for transgender and/or nonbinary adults
Fridays 12-1pm Pacific Time via telehealth
This is a group for transgender and/or nonbinary adults to learn and practice skills from Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The group is held on Fridays from 12-1pm Pacific Time over Zoom.
The group covers the four modules of DBT skills: mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. Modules last approximately 12 weeks, and the group cycles through the modules on an ongoing basis to provide further practice for continuing members, or opportunities for new group members.
Fee and Sliding Scale Information:
Group member fees are $75 per session. There are some sliding scale spots available for individuals who cannot access the group at the full fee. Paying the full fee allows for sliding scale fee opportunities for individuals to access the group who would otherwise be unable to do so.
Joining the Group
Please start by filling out a group interest form. You will then be contacted about scheduling an intake appointment, as well as given the next start date for new group members. You must attend an intake appointment in order to be offered a spot in the group. An intake appointment for the group typically takes 45 minutes to an hour via Zoom, and costs the same amount as a group session ($75, or a sliding scale fee if applicable). Free phone consultations (up to 20 minutes) are also available prior to an intake session upon request.
New members will be welcome to join the group at the start of a new skills module, so a wait time may be involved after completing the intake process before attending group sessions. New members must be able to attend the first group session of a skills module, as this helps to facilitate a smoother transition into the group, minimizes disruption to the rest of the group, and allows new members to be present for the orientation to the skills module.
Group Member Requirements:
Group members must be located in California, and currently working with a therapist individually. Those new to DBT, as well as those with previous DBT experience, are welcome. The group is for transgender and nonbinary adults, ages 18 or older. Group members must be able to attend the group regularly and participate from a private setting. Group members are expected to keep their cameras on as much as possible during group sessions. New members must attend an intake appointment, as well as the first group session of a new skills module, in order to join the group.
